What is Active Driving Assist?

Jeep’s Innovative Active Driving Assist Explained

Active Driving Assist and Hands-Free Active Driving Assist are making the car ownership experience even better for Jeep owners. While automotive technology hasn’t quite achieved completely self-reliant autonomous driving systems, Jeep’s latest innovations have come close. Vehicles equipped with these semi-autonomous driving systems allow Jeep owners to relax behind the wheel, increasing both safety and security.

Active Driving Assist and Hands-Free Active Driving Assist

Jeep’s Active Driving Assist actively monitors your surroundings using an advanced system of cameras and sensors. When enabled, it can:

  • Lane Centering: This feature keeps your vehicle centered within its lane by detecting lane markings and gently steering your vehicle so that it stays within those boundaries.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control: The system balances maintaining a pre-set speed and keeping a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead. During traffic slowdowns, it reduces your speed, then resumes your pre-set speed when the traffic clears.
  • Traffic Jam Assist: In heavy traffic or stop-and-go conditions, Active Driving Assist can help manage the vehicle's speed and steering, reducing driver fatigue by handling these repetitive tasks.
  • Speed Adjustment in Curves: The system, which comes with the Hands-Free Driving Assist feature, can detect when your Jeep is approaching a curve and adjust your speed accordingly to ensure a smooth and safe turn.
  • Driver Monitoring: The system includes a driver attention monitoring feature that detects if the driver is inattentive. When using Hands-Free Driving Assist, if the driver’s hands are off the wheel or attention seems to be elsewhere, the system will issue warnings and may prompt the driver to retake control.
  • Automatic Braking: If the system detects an impending collision and the driver doesn’t react in time, it can automatically apply the brakes to mitigate the impact or avoid it altogether.

Although the system provides significant assistance, it requires the driver to keep their hands on the wheel. If the driver releases the wheel for too long, the system will prompt them to regain control.
